Conference: new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches and technological tools for the hemodialysis patient

Nefrocenter conference on December 15 in Cava de Tirreni. The Holiday Inn will host the meeting on “New diagnostic and therapeutic approaches and technological tools for the hemodialysis patient.
The progressive increase in the dialysis population and the concurrent change in its distinctive characteristics call for new scientific and clinical considerations and strategies. The current clinical “impact” of the hemodialysis population is greater than at the beginning of hemodialysis, and therefore the possible treatment choices cannot and must not be limited to a few standardized solutions for different classes of patients.
Over the last decade there has been a higher incidence of elderly, comorbid and frail patients, especially from a cardiovascular and hemodynamic standpoint, who are more exposed to the complications of dialysis treatment and are more affected by them in terms of morbidity and mortality.
On the other hand, technological innovation in dialysis, with the development of alternative techniques and membranes, advanced monitoring systems, sensors and biofeedback, together with the possible aid of AI (artificial intelligence) systems for data analysis, now offers new therapeutic possibilities aimed at the continuous personalization of dialysis treatment, in order to reduce its complications, increasing patient compliance and the quality of treatment, with a consequent greater life expectancy and savings on the costs of hospitalizations for complications.
Personalized or “precision” dialysis consists of moving from a standardized dialysis prescription, formulated on the basis of a few reference indicators and based on the assumption of offering the same therapy to everyone who has the same diagnosis, but which does not guarantee the same results for all, to a personalized dialysis prescription that takes into account the specific characteristics of each individual patient.
Thanks to the many opportunities offered by the current scenario, it is possible to individualize various aspects of extracorporeal renal replacement treatment, starting from the diagnostic assessment of the end-stage uremic patient, through to the choice of the most suitable methods and the most appropriate drug treatments.
For this reason, in this course we will address relevant topics, new drugs to be combined with “old” drugs in the control of secondary hyperparathyroidism, SGLT2 inhibitors, the new hypoglycemic agents with an emerging nephroprotective effect in CKD as well as in diabetic nephropathy, alongside the nephrologist’s older armamentarium in the progression of CKD, new approaches to and monitoring of vascular access, the lifeline of the dialysis patient, and increasingly personalized dialysis treatments with new and innovative biosensors.
The course will be organized into three sessions and will include interactive discussions.
