Universal Health Coverage Day
International Universal Health Coverage Day (UHC) is a significant occasion for the Nefrocenter group as well.

UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE DAY. Every December 12, the world celebrates International Universal Health Coverage Day (UHC), a significant occasion that underscores the importance of equitable and universal access to health services. Universal Health Coverage refers to the right of every individual to access essential health services, regardless of their economic or geographic circumstances. It is based on the idea that health should be a fundamental right for all, not a privilege.
The participation of the Nefrocenter group
An important day for the Nefrocenter group as well, which for years has been on the front line, committing its facilities, people and resources in support of public health care. In its 70 healthcare facilities, located in several Regions of Italy, the group looks after more than 1,800 patients undergoing dialysis. Nefrocenter’s commitment, which in 2003 also took over the Rome American Hospital and the RSA Longoni in Roma, also extends to patients with diabetes. There are 60,000 people going through pathways of prevention and care for diabetes and its comorbidities.
Why Universal Health Coverage Day is celebrated
UHC plays a key role in improving health and reducing inequalities. It ensures that people can receive preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic care without suffering heavy financial burdens. This not only saves lives, but also helps promote stronger economies and resilient communities. One of the main goals of UHC is to ensure equitable access to quality health services. This means overcoming barriers such as geographic distance, disability, age and socioeconomic level to ensure that no one is left behind in the pursuit of well-being.
The goal
Promoting UHC also involves building resilient health systems capable of facing challenges such as epidemics, health emergencies and other crises. Investing in prevention and preparedness is essential to face future challenges. Technological innovation plays a significant role in achieving UHC. Technologies such as telemedicine, digital health and artificial intelligence can improve efficiency, reduce costs and expand access to health services, especially in remote areas. The Nefrocenter group has an area entirely dedicated to research and development: Nefrocenter Research, which collaborates with the UNESCO Chair and with the Universities of Napoli Federico II and Luigi Vanvitelli and La Sapienza of Roma.
