[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]World Diabetes Day is celebrated on November 14. The NefroCenter group is a leader in the prevention and treatment of diabetes and its complications. Our doctors’ research work is also devoted to diabetes: through Nefrocenter Research they study how the disease evolves and how treatments are progressing. On this day the group’s commitment is spread across 7 public squares in Campania and Rome American Hospital. Diabetes specialists and nurses will be on the ground to provide a consultation with a diabetes specialist and blood glucose measurement.
World Diabetes Day
Every year on November 14, World Diabetes Day is celebrated. It is an opportunity to raise awareness of a disease whose numbers keep growing in industrialized countries. The date was chosen in honor of Frederick Grant Banting, the Canadian physiologist who, together with Charles Herbert Best, discovered insulin in 1921. The discovery turned diabetes from a fatal disease into a controllable one. The color chosen for the celebration is blue, and as many as 60 countries around the world light up some of their monuments in blue to raise public awareness of the importance of prevention.
What diabetes is
Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia, that is, increased glucose in the blood. The causes are multifactorial, resulting from the interaction of genetic and environmental factors.
The different types of diabetes
- Type 1 diabetes. Insufficient, or deficient, production of the hormone insulin.
- Type 2 diabetes the most common from age 40 onward, characterized by a reduced ability of the tissues to use insulin itself.
- Gestational diabetes. An increase in glucose levels that appears during pregnancy.
Early diagnosis is essential
Early diagnosis is essential to establish a proper plan for controlling the disease. It is important to have regular checkups to detect and treat any damage to the various organs.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nz9ShzCq8a4″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
