High blood urea<\/strong> (azotemia) is a key parameter for assessing the health of the kidneys and of the body. It increasingly appears in blood tests, but not everyone knows what it really means and, above all, when it is a reason to worry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

What is blood urea (azotemia)<\/h2>\n

It is the value that indicates the amount of urea present in the blood<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Urea is a waste product made by the liver during protein metabolism. Once produced:<\/p>\n

  1. it passes into the blood<\/li>\n
  2. it is filtered by the kidneys<\/li>\n
  3. it is eliminated in the urine<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    When this mechanism does not work properly, urea builds up in the blood, which is called azotemia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
