The new Covid variant is generating concern at the beginning of the year 2023. while the Italian Government led by Giorgia Meloni has already specified that there\u2019ll be no closures, the data show a worrying spread. The alarm for the new Gryphon Covid variant has already been raised in many Countries. Its scientific name is XBB.1.5 and it belongs to the many Omicron variants that have been around for almost a year.<\/p>\n

The new Gryphon Covid variant: the worrying data<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The most worrying data of this new wave comes from China. There are no certain estimates on the infection rate from the Asian Country, but a first statistic was made by Airinfinity. This British society spoke of even one million infections per day and 5 thousand deaths per day. However, these are numbers that the Chinese authorities are hiding.\u00a0 If these numbers would get confirmed, we\u2019d be facing the largest Covid mutation to date, affecting the largest slice of the world\u2019s population in such a short time. In Italy, Gryphon affected 1.82% of people, at least according to the latest data made on December 27th<\/sup>. The other European countries where Gryphon has been detected are France, Belgium, Germany, and Great Britain, while a peak occurred in the United States. In fact, in the US the authorities have registered a 140% increase in hospitalizations for Covid.<\/p>\n

The symptoms of this new Covid variant<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Gryphon, the new Covid variant, affects people in the same way as Cerberus, which was the variant that preceded it. It affects the upper respiratory tracts. Symptoms are:<\/p>\n

  • Stuffy nose;<\/li>\n
  • Sore throat;<\/li>\n
  • Headache;<\/li>\n
  • Dry cough;<\/li>\n
  • Tiredness;<\/li>\n
  • Sneezing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The difference is that the Gryphon variant is more aggressive, and for this reason there\u2019s been an increase in hospitalizations in the US, especially in the State of New York. In addition, the presence of the Australian seasonal flu, which has similar symptoms, is making the situation worse.<\/p>\n

    Isolation in case of Covid<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    In Italy, the laws have just been changed following the DL Rave. 5 days after the discovery of the infection, asymptomatic people are not forced to undergo a swab anymore. Isolation can last 5 days, 2 for those who no longer have symptoms. That\u2019s a softer line from the Government which doesn\u2019t want to block activities, allowing asymptomatic people to be able to resume their work after just a few days.<\/p>\n

    Vaccinations at Nefrocenter<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    The Nefrocenter Group has played an important role in supporting the vaccination campaign in the Campania Region. The vaccines given to all patients who were undergoing dialysis has made it possible to protect sensitive patients.
