Urology is the medical-surgical specialty that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of both benign and malignant pathologies affecting the urinary system in men and women (kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra) and the male genital system (prostate, testicles, penis). Andrology is a branch of urology specifically dedicated to male sexual and reproductive health. We treat very common and widespread conditions such as urinary tract infections (cystitis, pyelonephritis), urinary stones (kidney, ureteral, and bladder stones), benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH, a frequent cause of urinary disorders in elderly men), female and male urinary incontinence, and male sexual dysfunctions (erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, infertility). An area of great importance is urological oncology, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of tumors affecting the prostate, kidney, bladder, testicle, and penis. The approach to the patient is comprehensive: it starts with a specialized urological examination (which includes a digital rectal examination for the prostate in men), supported by diagnostic laboratory tests (urine analysis, urine culture, PSA for the prostate) and instrumental exams such as urological ultrasound (renal, bladder, transrectal prostate) and cystoscopy (endoscopic examination to visualize the inside of the urethra and bladder). The therapeutic offerings include pharmacological treatments and state-of-the-art surgical interventions, with the increasing use of minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopic and robotic surgery, and innovative laser technologies such as the Thulium laser (ThuLEP) for the endoscopic treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, which guarantees excellent functional results with reduced invasiveness and faster recovery times.
